In a conversation with former Australia cricketer Michael Clarke on the Beyond23 Cricket Podcast, Bumrah emphasized that family comes before cricket.

Jasprit Bumrah: Balancing Cricket Excellence and Family Life

“For me, family is more important than my career because that is constant,” Jasprit Bumrah said. “There are two things I take seriously—my family and my game—but family comes first.”

Jasprit Bumrah also highlighted that to his family, he is not just a cricketer, but a human being. “I have to give priority, and I do give priority because I will not be a cricketer all the time. For them, I’m not a cricketer. I’m a human being. Being a young father and seeing my son start playing with the ball—even though it’s not advisable at the moment—means a lot to me.”

Currently playing for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025, Jasprit Bumrah has taken 18 wickets in 11 matches with an impressive economy rate of 6.36, the best among all bowlers in the tournament. He is on track to have the best economy rate in the IPL for the second consecutive year, after achieving this feat in 2024.

Bumrah had an outstanding 2024, earning the Player of the Series award in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia and the Player of the Tournament in the T20 World Cup. However, injuries have caused him to miss the start of IPL 2025, and he is expected to play only three Tests during India’s upcoming England tour.

“It’s tough to keep playing everything for so long. I’ve been doing it for a while, but you have to understand where your body is and which tournaments are most important,” Bumrah explained. “I try to enjoy the game because that’s why I started playing. I take one day at a time and collect memories—because, in the end, that’s all I’ll remember.”
