Rishabh Pant leads Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as their captain in IPL 2025. The franchise secured him for a record-breaking INR 27 crores during the IPL 2025 mega auction, making him the most expensive player in IPL history. Following this, he was appointed as the team’s skipper.
Despite the high expectations, Pant has struggled both with the bat and as a captain this season. The left-handed batsman has frequently been dismissed for low scores, averaging only 13.73. Over 12 innings, he has scored a total of 151 runs, with his highest score being 63.
Under Pant’s leadership, LSG have had a disappointing season. They failed to qualify for the playoffs, winning just five of their first 12 matches while losing seven. With 10 points, they currently sit in seventh place on the points table.
Rishabh Pant Slams User Spreading Fake News About His Future with LSG

Rishabh Pant took to X (formerly Twitter) to refute false claims made by a journalist who alleged that LSG would release him before the next season. The journalist had tweeted that LSG planned to remove Pant as captain and drop him from the team ahead of the upcoming season. Pant strongly denied the rumors with a clear response.
“I understand fake news draws more attention, but let’s not base everything on it. Using some common sense and sharing credible news will help more than spreading fake stories with an agenda. Thanks, have a good day. Let’s be responsible and thoughtful about what we post on social media,” the 27-year-old wrote on X.

The journalist responded, “Hi Rishabh, I don’t think you’re the one calling the shots in LSG. Whether you stay captain or not will be decided by the LSG management. Let them clear things up. Thank you, and enjoy your last two matches as captain in IPL 2025.

Rishabh Pant experimented with various batting positions during IPL 2025 but struggled to regain his form. After the tournament resumed, the Super Giants faced the challenge of needing to win all three of their remaining matches to secure a spot in the playoffs.
Unfortunately, Pant and his teammates lost their first match after the resumption, falling to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by six wickets on May 19. This defeat dashed their faint hopes of making it to the playoffs. The Super Giants will now face Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in their final match of the tournament on May 27.
