Mohammed Siraj is expected to play a crucial role for India in the upcoming Test series against England. Former bowling coach Bharat Arun has identified Siraj as India’s main bowler for the five-match Test series starting on June 20. With Jasprit Bumrah’s participation uncertain in all five games due to workload management, Siraj is set to lead the pace attack.
Although Mohammed Siraj struggled to find his best form in the previous Test series losses against Australia and New Zealand, Bharat Arun is confident that he will regain his top form ahead of the England series.
“It’s a great opportunity for Mohammed Siraj.” – Bharat Arun

Former India bowling coach Bharat Arun praised Mohammed Siraj for his skill and potential, expressing confidence that Siraj can translate his IPL success into the Test arena. Having toured England in 2021, Mohammed Siraj impressed with his outstanding bowling, playing a key role in India’s remarkable victory at the Lord’s Test.
“It’s a fantastic chance for Siraj. He has gained valuable experience and delivered some exceptional spells — like the one at Lord’s in our last win. Now is the time for him to step up and declare himself as a frontline bowler for India. He definitely has the skill set,” Arun told the Times of India.
Arun emphasized that Mohammed Siraj mindset will be crucial going forward. “He’s a smart bowler and a captain’s delight, always giving his best. While aggression is important, controlling it is key. He’s in good rhythm after a strong IPL season.”
Since September 2024, Mohammed Siraj has taken 26 wickets in nine Test matches at an average of 33.73 and an economy rate of 3.82. Notably, he claimed 20 wickets in five matches during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against Australia.
Overall, Mohammed Siraj has accumulated 100 wickets in 36 Tests for India, boasting best figures of 6/15, with a career average of 30.74 and a strike rate of 53.
With Jasprit Bumrah scheduled to feature in only three Tests in the upcoming England series, Mohammed Siraj will need to elevate his performance as India embarks on a new chapter in Test cricket under captain Shubman Gill.
