N Srinivasan, once one of the most influential figures in Indian and global cricket, is back in the spotlight. At 80, the former BCCI and ICC chief has been appointed chairman of Chennai Super Kings Cricket Ltd (CSKCL<\/a>), the company that owns one of the most successful franchises in the Indian Premier League, reported Cricbuzz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The report added that Srinivasan remains in regular touch with legendary captain MS Dhoni. Their partnership\u2014between board president and captain\u2014was one of the most celebrated in Indian cricket history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to franchise communications, officially joined the CSKCL board as a director in February 2025, with his elevation to chairman taking place on May 10. A CSKCL director noted that the franchise “needs his experience and wisdom to navigate through all the changes” amid ongoing shifts in world cricket and franchise models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CSK\u2019s leadership also includes N. family. His daughter, Rupa Gurunath, was named Wholetime Director effective August 24, 2025. She has previous experience in cricket administration and continues to hold influence within the organisation<\/a>. Rupa owns 36,440 shares, while N. holds 4,27,400, and his wife, Chitra Srinivasan, controls over a lakh shares, consolidating the family\u2019s control of the franchise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting will be conducted virtually via videoconferencing and other audiovisual means. Key agenda items include the reappointments of N. Srinivasan and Rupa Gurunath as directors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The current board comprises R. Srinivasan, Rakesh Singh, PL Subramanian, Sanjay Patel, V. Manickam, and Rupa Gurunath. E. Jayashree served as a director until May 10. Managing Director and CEO Kasi Viswanathan continues to oversee day-to-day operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although rarely seen publicly, Srinivasan remains deeply engaged with CSK\u2019s affairs, particularly in expanding the franchise\u2019s footprint in overseas leagues, with teams already established in South Africa and the United States.<\/a> He is also a strong advocate for high-performance centres and academies to strengthen long-term infrastructure. Sources suggest his appointment as chairman would be unsurprising, as the Srinivasan family now fully controls the CSK franchise, independent of India Cements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A senior official confirmed Srinivasan\u2019s active role in internal meetings, including close interactions with MS Dhoni, the team\u2019s most visible face. This involvement could also pave the way for Dhoni, now 44, to extend his playing career with CSK for a few more seasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
