India’s Test side has reached the WTC final twice, and their strong batting line-up has been a major factor behind this success. Scoring consistently in Test cricket is never easy, yet several Indian batsmen have risen to the occasion with remarkable performances.
Over the course of the WTC, many Indian players have accumulated 1,000 or more runs, while a select few have gone beyond 2,000. In this article, we highlight the top five Indian run-scorers in ICC WTC history.
Indian Batsmen with the Most Runs in ICC World Test Championship History
Ravindra Jadeja – 2,505 runs

Veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been a key figure for India in the ICC WTC, not just with the ball but also with the bat. With 145 wickets, he ranks among India’s top wicket-takers in WTC history. Batting-wise, Jadeja has amassed 2,505 runs in 46 tests at an average of 43+, including five centuries and 17 half-centuries, with a highest score of 175*.
Virat Kohli – 2,617 runs

Former captain Virat Kohli was a dominant force in Test cricket during his prime. In the ICC WTC, he played 46 matches, scoring 2,617 runs at an average of 35.36. His tally includes five centuries and 11 half-centuries, with a top score of 254*. Kohli retired in 2025 after a few quieter years in the longest format.
Rohit Sharma – 2,716 runs

Rohit Sharma surprised many by announcing his Test retirement before India’s 2025 England tour. Despite a dip in form toward the end of his career, Rohit was one of India’s finest openers in WTC history. He played 40 tests, scoring 2,716 runs at an average of 41.15, including nine centuries and eight half-centuries, with a highest score of 212.
Rishabh Pant – 2,731 runs

Since his debut, Rishabh Pant has been a standout performer for India in Test cricket. Even after missing more than a year due to a car accident, Pant ranks as India’s second-highest run-scorer in ICC WTC history. In 38 matches, he has scored 2,731 runs at an average of 43.34, with six centuries and 16 half-centuries.
Shubman Gill – 2,826 runs

India’s new Test captain, Shubman Gill, has steadily grown into a pillar of the team. Making his debut during the inaugural WTC cycle, Gill has become India’s leading run-scorer in ICC WTC history. In 39 matches, he has scored 2,826 runs at an average of 43.47, including a record 10 centuries and eight half-centuries, with a top score of 269.
