Hardik Pandya last represented India in the Asia Cup 2025. On Saturday, October 4, the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee announced the Indian squad for the upcoming ODI and T20I tours of Australia. In a significant development, all-rounder Hardik Pandya was left out of both squads following the change in ODI captaincy.
Chief selector Ajit Agarkar confirmed that Hardik Pandya is unfit for the Australia tour due to an injury sustained during the Asia Cup 2025. The all-rounder suffered a right quadriceps injury in the Super Four match against Sri Lanka, forcing him to leave the field after bowling just one over. He was unable to return for the remainder of the match and subsequently missed the Asia Cup 2025 final against Pakistan.

“Hardik Pandya is not fit at the moment. He will report to the CoE to evaluate his situation,” Agarkar said.
With Pandya unavailable, all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has been included in both the ODI and T20I squads. Shivam Dube is another all-rounder featuring in the T20I squad.
The ODI squad also sees a leadership change, with Shubman Gill replacing Rohit Sharma as captain, and Shreyas Iyer appointed as vice-captain. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have returned to the national team for the upcoming ODI series.
India’s Australia tour will kick off with the first ODI on October 19, followed by matches on October 23 and October 25. The five T20Is are scheduled between October 29 and November 8.
