The Indian cricket team is preparing for a two-match Test series against the West Indies at home, marking the second assignment for both sides in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27.
The series will open in Ahmedabad on October 2, while the second Test is scheduled from October 10 to 14 at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Shubman Gill, who was appointed India’s Test captain in May ahead of the ICC WTC 2025-27 cycle, will lead the home side. However, India will be without vice-captain Rishabh Pant, who remains sidelined as he undergoes rehabilitation for a fractured foot.
With Rishabh Pant unavailable, Ravindra Jadeja has been appointed as the team’s vice-captain. Wicket-keepers Dhruv Jurel and N Jagadeesan have earned spots in the squad, while Karun Nair and Shardul Thakur, who featured in India’s last Test series against England, have been dropped.
Sai Sudharsan, who made his Test debut during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025, has been retained, and young Devdutt Padikkal has been recalled to the Test squad, having last played against Australia in November 2024.
On the other side, Roston Chase will lead the West Indies in the upcoming Test series. However, the visitors have already suffered two major setbacks, with Shamar Joseph and Alzarri Joseph ruled out due to injuries. Batters Alick Athanaze and Tagenarine Chanderpaul return to the Test side after a long hiatus.
India enters the series on the back of a strong performance, drawing 2-2 in their five-match series against England. West Indies, meanwhile, come off a disappointing 3-0 whitewash against Australia in June-July.
