Varun Chakravarthy: The Asia Cup 2025 final was played between India and Pakistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, where India defeated Pakistan by 5 wickets to win the title. However, the post-match atmosphere was less peaceful. The trophy ceremony was mired in controversy as the Indian players refused to accept the trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.

Varun Chakravarthy: According to reports, the Indian team wanted the trophy to be presented to Khalid Al Zarooni, Vice President of the United Arab Emirates Cricket Board, but this demand was rejected. Naqvi then left the stadium with the trophy and medals. As a result, the Indian players won the title, but were deprived of the actual trophy.
However, this controversy did not dampen the celebrations. India’s mysterious spinner Varun Chakravarthy reacted to the entire incident in a humorous way. On September 29th, he posted a photo of himself relaxing on a bed with a cup of tea on a nearby table on the social media platform X.
He jokingly alluded to the missing trophy through this photo. Chakravarthy also shared a photo of the Indian team, in which the players were pretending to lift an imaginary trophy on an empty stage.

This isn’t the first time Chakravarthy has used tea or coffee cups for humor. After winning the 2025 Champions Trophy, he shared a photo of himself drinking coffee next to the trophy and jokingly mentioned the long-awaited victory.
Not only Varun, but Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Shubman Gill, and Abhishek Sharma also shared edited photos and poked fun at the incident with trophy emojis. Captain Suryakumar Yadav wrote in his post, “Champions are remembered, not trophies.” Thus, despite the controversy, the Indian players lightened the atmosphere by celebrating in their own style.
