After the hard-fought win, captain Suryakumar Yadav praised pacer Arshdeep Singh, who delivered a brilliant super over to secure the victory, and shared his thoughts ahead of the final against Pakistan.
In a nail-biting encounter, India kept their unbeaten streak alive by defeating Sri Lanka in the super over. Opting to bat first, opener Abhishek Sharma (61) once again gave India a strong start, marking his third consecutive fifty. He was ably supported by Sanju Samson (39) and Tilak Varma (49*), helping India post a competitive total of 202/5.
Sri Lanka’s chase got a strong boost from Pathum Nissanka (107) and Kusal Perera (58), who added 127 runs for the second wicket, putting the Indian bowlers under pressure. Nissanka’s century made a Sri Lankan win seem almost certain. But in the final two overs, Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana turned the game around, restricting Sri Lanka to 202/5 and forcing a super over.
In the super over, Sri Lanka faltered, scoring only two runs as Arshdeep Singh dismissed both batters. Suryakumar Yadav then sealed the victory for India with a boundary off the very first delivery, completing a dramatic and unforgettable win.

“He (Arshdeep) has delivered for us consistently over the last 2–3 years. I told him to trust his own plans and execute them. He has been in these situations many times and has performed brilliantly for India and his IPL team. His confidence says it all—there was no one better than Arshdeep to bowl that Super Over,” Suryakumar Yadav said.
He also commended the opening partnership, noting, “To get that start with the bat, and seeing players like Sanju and Tilak set the tempo was fantastic. For Sanju, who isn’t an opener, to take that responsibility, and for Tilak to display such confidence, it was great to witness.”
Looking ahead to the final against Pakistan
Yadav spoke about India’s preparation for the final against Pakistan, emphasizing the team’s optimism and readiness.
“A few players had cramps today, but we’ll have a recovery day tomorrow and approach the final just like we did today. Everyone got what they wanted from the group stages, and we’re thrilled to be in the finals,” he added.
India will face Pakistan in the tournament final on September 28 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The Men in Blue have been unbeaten so far, winning all six matches, including two victories over Pakistan, and will aim to maintain their perfect record.
