CSK Signs Dewald Brevis for ₹2.2 Crores in IPL 2025. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have officially confirmed the signing of Dewald Brevis for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at ₹2.2 crores. The five-time champions have denied claims made by Ravichandran Ashwin suggesting that the franchise paid extra to secure the young batter.
CSK has been under intense scrutiny in recent days, following Ashwin’s statement on his YouTube channel. The off-spinner claimed that the franchise paid above Dewald Brevis base price to bring him in as a replacement.
Ashwin also mentioned that 2–3 other teams were interested in Brevis but were unwilling to offer additional money, stating:
“I heard 2–3 teams were in talks with him, but they weren’t willing to pay extra, so negotiations fell through. While picking up a player mid-season, there will be discussions with the player’s agent to negotiate on an ‘X’ amount apart from the base price to acquire his services.”
CSK Issues Official Statement on Dewald Brevis Signing

Chennai Super Kings faced heavy criticism after signing Dewald Brevis mid-season. Brevis had gone unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction but was later brought in by the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side as a replacement for Gurjapneet Singh for ₹2.2 crore.
Responding to the backlash, CSK released an official statement addressing Ravichandran Ashwin’s remarks:
“All actions taken by the franchise during the signing process of Dewald Brevis as a Replacement Player during the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 were in complete compliance with the rules and regulations of the IPL.”
The franchise also cited the IPL Player Regulations 2025-27:
“A Replacement Player can be recruited at a League Fee not exceeding the League Fee payable to the injured or unavailable Player for the relevant Season.”
Brevis proved his worth immediately, energizing CSK’s batting lineup. The South African smashed 225 runs in six innings at a strike rate above 180 and recently scored a 41-ball century in a T20I against Australia.
