Not Due to Workload! Jasprit Bumrah Missed The Oval Test Against England Because of a Knee Injury

Jasprit Bumrah Played Only Three Matches in the ENG vs IND Series. Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah featured in just three games during the five-match Test series against England. He was not cleared to play the fifth and final Test, which is currently being held at The Oval in London.

Prior to the series, it had already been decided that Bumrah would not participate in all five matches due to workload management. With several major tournaments on the horizon, the team management opted to take a long-term view of his fitness and availability.

Jasprit Bumrah played the series opener at Headingley in Leeds before being rested for the second Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham. He returned for the third Test at Lord’s and continued in the fourth match at Old Trafford in Manchester.

Heading into the decider at The Oval, many expected Bumrah to be part of the playing XI. Although the team management confirmed he was fit, they stated that a final decision would be made on the morning of the match.

In the end, Jasprit Bumrah was not included in the lineup—and notably, he was released from the squad entirely ahead of the fifth Test, a move that drew significant attention.

Jasprit Bumrah Sidelined with Knee Injury, Confirms BCCI Source

The mystery behind Jasprit Bumrah’s absence from the fifth Test has now been cleared up. According to a report by Mumbai Mirror, it wasn’t workload management but a knee injury that kept the star pacer out of action.

A source close to the situation confirmed that Bumrah is dealing with a minor knee issue. “Unfortunately, Jasprit Bumrah is suffering from a knee injury. The good news is that it’s not serious and won’t require surgery. The BCCI medical team is awaiting his scan reports,” the source said.

Jasprit Bumrah is expected to begin his rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE). The full extent of the injury will be known once the scan results are in.

Despite missing the final Test, Jasprit Bumrah had a strong series in England, finishing with 14 wickets, including two five-wicket hauls — one each at Headingley and Lord’s.
