"How We Built That 107-Run Partnership…" — Yashasvi Jaiswal Reflects on Stand with Akash Deep

Yashasvi Jaiswal Lauds Akash Deep After Pivotal 107-Run Stand in Series-Deciding Test at The Oval. India’s star opener Yashasvi Jaiswal showered praise on Akash Deep for his vital contribution during their match-changing partnership in the fifth and final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England at The Oval on Saturday. The pair stitched together a crucial 107-run stand for the third wicket on Day 3, rescuing India after early blows in the second innings with KL Rahul and Sai Sudharsan falling cheaply on Day 2.

This stand not only steadied India’s innings but also marked the 18th century partnership of the England tour—setting a new record for the most 100-run stands in a Test series in the 21st century, surpassing the 17 recorded during the 2003–04 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Yashasvi Jaiswal revealed his on-field conversation with Deep, saying, “He did what he could, and he was playing shots and defending very well. We were just having a talk in the middle about what we can do best in that situation because we wanted him to play as long as he can. So, that will benefit us as well. So, I was just thinking about how we can build this partnership as long as we can.”

Deep, who came in as a nightwatchman during the third session of Day 2 in the fifth and final Test, Yashasvi Jaiswal capitalized on a lifeline to register his maiden Test fifty — a determined knock that placed him alongside elite company. He became only the fourth Indian to score a Test fifty at No.4 in England this century, joining Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and Shubman Gill.

Meanwhile, Jaiswal continued his rich vein of form with another batting masterclass, reaching his second century of the series in just 127 balls. His impressive innings eventually ended on 118 off 164 deliveries, falling to an upper cut that found the third man fielder perfectly positioned for the shot.
