In the third session on day one, Pant attempted a reverse sweep off Chris Woakes, but the ball struck his shoe. He was then seen with a cut and swelling on his foot and was unable to continue walking. Consequently, Pant retired hurt and was taken off the field on a medical buggy for further treatment.
Earlier in the match, England captain Ben Stokes won the toss and chose to bowl first. Indian openers KL Rahul (46) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (58) laid a solid foundation with a 94-run opening partnership.

Pant has been in exceptional form during the ongoing Test series against England. With 462* runs from seven innings at an average of 66.0, the Indian vice-captain ranks as the second highest run-scorer in the series so far. His contributions include two centuries and two half-centuries.
Meanwhile, India has had a decent batting performance on day one of the Manchester Test despite losing wickets in the second session. After a steady start from the openers, Sai Sudharsan’s resilient 61 helped push the team past the 250-run mark. For England, captain Ben Stokes was the standout bowler on day one.
