Rishabh Pant was unfortunate to be run out just before lunch on the third day of the Lord’s Test.

India’s wicket-keeper batsman, Pant, battled through pain in his left hand, delivering a performance marked by courage, aggression, and ultimately heartbreak. Rishabh Pant came to the crease when India was in a precarious position but quickly formed a strong partnership with KL Rahul. Their 141-run stand not only steadied the innings but also shifted momentum firmly towards India.

From the moment he stepped in, Rishabh Pant was visibly troubled by a finger injury he had sustained while keeping on Thursday. His discomfort was clear, with frequent visits from the physio and occasional grimaces caught on camera.

Despite the pain, Pant played in his characteristic fearless manner. He opened his innings with a classic flick off Jofra Archer and followed it up with a commanding six over the ground off Shoaib Bashir. However, just as it seemed he would carry on until the break, misfortune struck.

In the final over before lunch, Pant pushed a delivery from Bashir towards cover point and went for a quick single. Ben Stokes, sharp and agile near the circle, seized the moment and executed a direct hit at the non-striker’s end. Pant was caught off guard, ending his gritty 74-run innings in heartbreaking fashion.

Adding to his growing list of records, Rishabh Pant surpassed MS Dhoni’s total for most runs by an Indian wicket-keeper in a Test series in England. Scoring 416 runs across three matches, he became the first visiting wicket-keeper to cross 400 runs in a single Test series on English soil, outdoing Dhoni’s 349 runs from 2014.

With his eighth Test fifty in England, Pant also matched Dhoni’s record for the most 50-plus scores by a designated visiting wicket-keeper in England, highlighting his consistency and impact on foreign pitches.
