RCB Seal Qualifier 1 Spot with Thrilling Win Over LSG, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have secured their place in Qualifier 1 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 after defeating Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in a high-scoring encounter. With this victory, RCB climbed to second place on the points table. The match took place at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
Batting first, LSG had a shaky start as debutant Matthew Breetzke was dismissed for 14. However, Mitchell Marsh (67) and skipper Rishabh Pant (118*) turned the tide, unleashing a flurry of boundaries and stitching together a massive 152-run partnership for the second wicket. Pant, in sensational form, notched up his second century of the season and remained unbeaten till the end, guiding LSG to a formidable total of 227/3.
IPL 2025: In response, RCB began strongly with Phil Salt (30) and Virat Kohli (54) putting up 61 runs for the first wicket. But LSG bounced back swiftly, taking quick wickets and reducing Bengaluru to 123/4.
Just when things looked tough for RCB, Mayank Agarwal (41) and stand-in captain Jitesh Sharma (85) turned the game around. Jitesh played a captain’s knock, registering his maiden IPL fifty, while Mayank provided solid support. Their unbroken partnership saw RCB chase down the target with six wickets in hand.
RCB will now face Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Qualifier 1 on May 29 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Chandigarh.
