Punjab Kings defeated Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2 of IPL 2025 to secure their spot in the final. At the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, Punjab Kings (PBKS) clinched a five-wicket win over Mumbai Indians (MI) to reach the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. They will now face Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the final on Tuesday, June 3.
Mumbai Indians were asked to bat first and got off to a shaky start as Rohit Sharma was dismissed for just 8 in the third over. IPL 2025, However, Jonny Bairstow (38) and Tilak Varma (44) steadied the innings with a quick 51-run partnership for the second wicket, taking advantage of the powerplay.
Suryakumar Yadav (44), continuing his sensational form this season, came in at number four and played another superb knock, surpassing the 700-run mark for the tournament. Along with Tilak, he added 72 runs for the third wicket, taking MI past the 140-run mark.
Captain Hardik Pandya struggled to get going and scored 15, but Naman Dhir’s explosive 37-run cameo at the end helped MI post a competitive total of 203/6. Azmatullah Omarzai was the pick of the bowlers for PBKS, taking two wickets.
Chasing 204, PBKS lost Prabhsimran Singh (6) early, but Josh Inglis (38) hit back aggressively, smashing 20 runs off an over from Jasprit Bumrah. MI, however, clawed their way back by removing Priyansh Arya (20) and Inglis in quick succession, leaving PBKS at 72/3.
IPL 2025: Captain Shreyas Iyer (87*), in sublime form, partnered with Nehal Wadhera (48) to rescue the innings. The duo counter-attacked brilliantly, putting PBKS back in control.
After Wadhera’s dismissal, Iyer took charge, bringing up his fifty and then accelerating further. He stayed unbeaten till the end, guiding Punjab Kings to a five-wicket victory and into the IPL 2025 final.
