Punjab Kings Secure Top-Two Finish with Impressive Win Over Mumbai Indians

Punjab Kings (PBKS) have secured a spot in the IPL Qualifier 1 by finishing in the top two of the points table, while Mumbai Indians (MI) will play in Eliminator 1. After PBKS’s seven-wicket victory, cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar praised their strategic team-building and young talent, highlighting how they wisely picked promising uncapped Indian players and impactful internationals at the auction.
Priyansh Arya impressed with seven sixes, showing maturity beyond his rookie status, while Josh Inglis played a crucial knock of 73 off 42 balls. Their 109-run partnership steered PBKS to chase down the target of 185 in 18.3 overs, despite a slow start in the powerplay. Captain Shreyas Iyer’s finishing six sealed a dominant win.
The Punjab Kings (PBKS) bowlers also performed well by restricting MI to 184 for seven on a typically high-scoring venue. With this win, Punjab Kings, making the playoffs for the first time since 2014, will host Qualifier 1 on May 29 at their home ground in Mullanpur. The Eliminator is scheduled for the next day at the same venue. The final playoffs lineup will be confirmed after Royal Challengers Bengaluru face Lucknow Super Giants.
