When choosing a wicket-keeper, Mitchell Marsh had to decide between Adam Gilchrist, Jos Buttler, and MS Dhoni. He ultimately selected Gilchrist for his side, leaving Dhoni and Buttler out. Marsh then promoted Gilchrist to the top of the order, moving Sachin Tendulkar down to No. 3.

For the all-rounders, Marsh was presented with options including Yuvraj Singh, Shane Watson, Kapil Dev, Andrew Symonds, Steve Waugh, Andrew Flintoff, and Ben Stokes. He chose Andrew Symonds, leaving the others aside.

In the bowling department, the options were Javagal Srinath, Glenn McGrath, Brett Lee, Shane Warne, Adam Zampa, Anil Kumble, Darren Gough, Jasprit Bumrah, and James Anderson. Marsh picked Anil Kumble, Darren Gough, James Anderson, and Jasprit Bumrah. Due to a limit of five Australian players, he could not include legends like McGrath, Lee, or Warne.
