The former India wicket-keeper batsman, speaking to Cricbuzz, was tasked with selecting the best T20 batter from a list of legendary names. The 40-year-old was presented with an array of cricketing icons, including Rohit Sharma, Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Yuvraj Singh, MS Dhoni, and Suresh Raina.
Through several rounds of elimination, Karthik narrowed the list down to four—Rohit Sharma, AB de Villiers, Virat Kohli, and MS Dhoni. In the final showdown, he considered De Villiers and Kohli, ultimately selecting Virat Kohli as the greatest T20 batter of all time. Karthik cited Kohli’s unmatched consistency and his ability to deliver under pressure as the key reasons behind his choice, calling him a truly exceptional player.
Virat Kohli Retires from T20I Cricket in 2024
Virat Kohli announced his retirement from T20I cricket in 2024, following India’s triumph in the ICC T20 World Cup. In a memorable farewell, the right-handed batsman played a match-winning 76-run innings in the final against South Africa, helping India edge past the Proteas by eight runs. Kohli was named Player of the Match in his last T20I appearance.
Over his illustrious T20I career, Virat Kohli featured in 125 matches, amassing 4,188 runs in 117 innings at an average of 48.70 and a strike rate of 137.05. The 36-year-old registered one century and 38 half-centuries, with a highest score of 122. He concluded his T20I journey as India’s second-highest run-scorer, behind Rohit Sharma.
Earlier in May, Kohli also retired from Test cricket. The former India captain is now preparing for the upcoming ODI series against Australia in October. His last international appearance was during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in March, where India clinched the title by defeating New Zealand in the final.
