On 24 August 2025, Cheteshwar Pujara announced his retirement from all formats of domestic cricket along with international cricket. With this decision, his brilliant international career came to an end. Pujara had played 103 Test matches for India and he played his last Test in the year 2023. Since then he was out of the Indian team. Meanwhile, now Pujara has revealed that the idea of retiring came to his mind a week ago. For this, he had thought a lot last week.

What did Cheteshwar Pujara say about retirement?
After retiring, Cheteshwar Pujara said in an interview with ANI that this plan was going on for a week. I have not been a part of the Indian team for the last few years but I thought this is the right time. Because young players have got a chance in domestic cricket, so I took this decision. He further said that when you take such a decision, you take this decision only after talking to your family and your biggest players, so I consulted everyone and then I decided that it is important to move forward.
Cheteshwar Pujara made a big statement about Test debut
Pujara further said that I made my debut for the Indian team in 2010, which was the proudest moment of my cricket career. When I made my debut in 2010 under the captaincy of Mahi Bhai (Mahendra Singh Dhoni), it was like a dream come true for me because there were some great players in the team. That team had players like Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir. I am still trying to remember the names I grew up watching, so it was one of the proudest moments of my cricket career.
Cheteshwar Pujara’s figures in Test format were excellent
Cheteshwar Pujara scored 7195 runs in his Test career at an average of 43.60. He is eighth in terms of scoring the most runs in Tests for India. He has also scored 21301 runs in first class cricket. Pujara made his Test debut in the year 2010. He managed to score 19 centuries and 35 half-centuries in his Test career. He played an important role in India’s victory in the tour of Australia in 2018 and 2021.
