Suryakumar Yadav Nearing Full Fitness After Hernia Surgery, Eyes Asia Cup Return

India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav is steadily progressing toward full fitness following his recent hernia surgery. Currently based at the BCCI’s National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru — specifically at the Centre of Excellence (CoE) — the star batter is undergoing rehabilitation and fitness assessments to ensure he’s ready in time for the upcoming Asia Cup.
As part of his recovery plan, Suryakumar was not included in the West Zone squad for the Duleep Trophy, which is being led by Shardul Thakur. His absence highlights the priority given to his long-term fitness as he continues rehab under expert supervision.
Suryakumar had revealed in June that he had undergone successful hernia surgery, calling it a step “on the road to recovery.” His last appearance came during IPL 2025, where he turned out for the Mumbai Indians before heading to the UK for consultation with a sports hernia specialist.
This marks his third surgery in as many years — with prior procedures on his ankle in 2023 and a previous hernia surgery in 2024.
Since taking over the T20I captaincy after India’s ICC T20 World Cup triumph in June 2024, Suryakumar has led an explosive batting transformation. Under his leadership, Team India has regularly posted scores above 250, and the skipper himself boasts an impressive T20I strike rate of 167.07, with four centuries to his name.
With eyes set on a strong return for the Asia Cup, all signs point toward Suryakumar Yadav making a full recovery and continuing his aggressive brand of leadership on the field.
