Gambhir praised Rishabh Pant fearless innings as a landmark moment for the Indian team, calling his courage the cornerstone of its future.
Gautam Gambhir Hails Rishabh Pant’s Grit as Defining for Team India

Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir showered praise on Rishabh Pant for his valiant batting performance in Manchester despite suffering from a fractured foot. Pant was injured on Day 1 and had to leave the field in visible pain, but returned on Day 2 to score a vital half-century, adding crucial runs and injecting belief into the Indian camp.
Rishabh Pant was even ready to bat again on Day 5 if needed, although stellar centuries from Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, and Washington Sundar, along with KL Rahul’s crucial 90, ensured he didn’t have to return.
Calling it a defining moment for the squad, Gambhir said Pant’s courage has laid a powerful foundation for the team’s future.
“Rishabh already, it’s been declared that he’s out of the series. And one thing I want to say is that the character and the foundation of this team will be built on what Rishabh did for the team and for the country as well,” Gambhir said in the post-match interaction.
“Not many people have done that in the past”

Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir lauded Rishabh Pant’s extraordinary bravery, highlighting how rare and inspirational it was for a player to bat with a fractured foot. Gambhir said Pant’s act was not just heroic but historic, something future generations should remember.
“Any amount of praise is not enough for him, especially batting with a broken foot. Not many people have done that in the past. And he had put his hand up, and that is why I say any amount of praise…” Gambhir said.
Gambhir also expressed hope for Pant’s swift recovery, calling him a vital cog in India’s red-ball lineup — not just for his aggressive batting but also the crucial balance he brings to the side.
“He’s an important member of the Test side. And I hope he recovers quickly and comes back quickly and tries to deliver a game for us,” Gambhir concluded.
