Ishan Kishan to Replace Kyle Verreynne in Nottinghamshire Squad. India’s out-of-favor wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan is set to play for England’s domestic side Nottinghamshire in the 2025 County Championship. Kishan has signed a short-term contract with the team for two upcoming matches.
Ishan Kishan will feature in Nottinghamshire’s games against Yorkshire at Trent Bridge and Somerset in Taunton. The left-handed batsman will be taking the place of South African wicket-keeper Kyle Verreynne in the squad.
Verreynne will be unavailable due to his national duties with South Africa for their upcoming Test series against Zimbabwe starting June 28. This marks Kishan’s debut appearance in county cricket.
Ishan Kishan Excited for His First Experience Playing County Cricket in England

After signing with Nottinghamshire, Ishan Kishan expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity to play county cricket in England and his eagerness to develop new skills. “I’m really excited to get my first taste of playing county cricket in England. It’s a great chance to showcase my abilities,” Kishan said in an official statement released by Nottinghamshire.
Ishan Kishan added, “I want to become the best cricketer I can be, and playing in English conditions will definitely help me learn new skills. Trent Bridge is a famous ground, well-known both in India and worldwide, and I’m thrilled to have the chance to play there.”
Notably, two other Indian players have also secured contracts in the 2025 County Championship: Tilak Varma has signed a short-term deal with Hampshire, while Ruturaj Gaikwad will join Yorkshire for the second half of the tournament.
So far, Ishan Kishan has played only two Test matches for India but has significant experience in white-ball cricket, with 27 ODIs and 32 T20Is under his belt. In India’s domestic circuit, he has featured in 58 First-Class matches for Jharkhand, scoring 3,447 runs in 98 innings, including eight centuries and 17 half-centuries.
